Thapa Legal Associates

About the Firm

A corporate law practice in Kathmandu built to work the way clients actually work: remotely, in writing and on a schedule.

Thapa Legal Associates is a corporate law practice based in Kathmandu, working with founders, established companies, industrial enterprises and non resident Nepalis who need legal work in Nepal completed without repeated visits to a government office.

The practice was built around a straightforward observation. Most corporate legal work in Nepal does not require a client to be in the room. It requires documents prepared correctly, applications filed in the right sequence at the right office, and someone reliable following up until the certificate issues. Those three things can be done for a client in Pokhara, in Biratnagar or in Sydney just as well as for one who walks into a chamber in Kathmandu.

How we work

Every matter starts with a written scope and a written quote that separates our professional fee from government fees and third party costs. You know what you are paying for before work begins.

Once a matter is open you get a direct line on WhatsApp or Viber and an update at each stage, including the stages where the update is that a government office has not yet responded. Silence during a wait is the most common complaint clients bring from previous advisers, and it is the easiest one to fix.

What we say no to

We tell clients when a matter is not worth pursuing, when a structure they have been advised to adopt is wrong for their situation, and when the honest timeline is longer than they were hoping. This occasionally costs us the engagement. It has never cost us a client relationship.

Experience

The team brings more than five years of focused work in corporate and business law: incorporations, statutory compliance, industrial and sector licensing, foreign investment structuring, intellectual property and the employment and tax questions that attach to all of it. The work spans startups registering their first entity and established companies managing a portfolio of licences across several authorities.

Languages

We work in Nepali and English. Documents are prepared in whichever language the receiving office requires, and anything you are asked to sign is explained in plain language first.

Tell us what you are trying to do

Describe the business, not the legal category. We will tell you which registrations and filings apply, what they cost and how long they take, before you commit to anything.
